Limited places for junior high graduates

JAKARTA: More than 130,000 junior high school graduates in Jakarta will not be able to enter public high schools or vocational schools, with only enough places for 35 percent of current junior high graduates this year.

Jakarta Education Agency head Taufik Yudhi insisted Friday all junior high graduates would be able to continue studying, because there were still many private high schools and vocational schools.

"Despite limited space in public schools, there are still private schools. With their help, all graduates will be accommodated," Taufik said as quoted by vivanews.com.

Data from the agency shows the city's 157 public high schools can only accommodate little more than 30,000 junior high graduates.

Meanwhile, the city's 64 public vocational schools can only accommodate 15,000 graduates. - JP
