Indonesia's Manpower and Transmigration Minister Erman Suparno is scheduled to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Jordanian Labor Minister Gazi Hamdallah Shbaikat during a meeting in Bali on Saturday.
Through the MoU, the two officials hope to ensure bilateral cooperation on migrant worker issues and provide protection for Indonesian migrant workers in the domestic sector.
The signing will be witnessed by the Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan and the Jordanian Ambassador to Indonesia.
Erman said in a press statement released Saturday that Indonesia and Jordan had already signed an MoU in 2001 on Indonesian workers in Jordan.
“The new agreement focuses specifically on Indonesian migrant domestic workers,” he said in the press release.
Almost 90 percent of some 30,000 Indonesian workers in Jordan are domestic workers. (dre)
