Flooding in Padang on Sunday has submerged nearly 900 houses and forced hundreds of residents in three villages to evacuate.
Kompas.com has reported that heavy rainfall hit Bungus Barat, Bungus Selatan and Bungus Timur villages at 1 p.m and has not stopped as of 9 p.m.
“The water came so fast. Within five minutes, the water reached as high as my knee,” said Yurlis, a resident of Juruai Permai housing complex of Bungus Barat.
Head of Bungus Barat village, Kasman Gani, said the refugees were in a dire need of food since the water also submerged their kitchens.
“They had too little time to rescue their belongings,” Kasman said. (ewd)
