ICW urges KPK to reject BPKP's audit plan

Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) has urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to reject the State Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP) plan to audit the anti-graft body financial and performances as this will exceed the latter authorities.

Danang Widiyoko from the ICW said Sunday that the BPKP did not have any authorities to audit the KPK given the latter stance as an independent body.

“The BPKP will audit state-owned institutions based on the heads' requests,” Danang told tempointeraktif.com.

Previously, BPKP's head Didi Widayadi said that he had received an indirect instruction from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who reprimanded the KPK power must not go unchecked.

Yudhoyono, however, denied he had given the instruction and demanded Didi to clarify the plan.

KPK's Deputy Chairman Haryono Umar said that the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) was the only institution that was authorized to audit the KPK. He did not elaborate on the KPK steps in response to the plan, however. (ewd)

Go ahead BPKP. Oral instruction from the President was already enough.
