KPU withdraws controversial election banner

The General Elections Commission (KPU) has withdrawn thousands of banners for the July 8 presidential election due to concern over its neutrality.
The banner has been publicly criticized for having a check mark in the middle of the presidential candidates’ numerical order as it may guide voters to vote for Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Boediono, whose numerical order is No. 2.
"We have circulated letters to the regions ordering them to withdraw the banners. Some regions have canceled their plans to erect the banners in public spaces," KPU spokesman Syafriadi was quoted by kompas.com as saying on Monday.
However, he denied the banner was aimed at guiding voters to vote for one particular pair.
