Situ Gintung victims to get new apartments

TANGERANG: The South Tangerang administration will provide low-cost rented apartments for victims of the Situ Gintung dam burst who lost their homes in the March disaster.
South Tangerang Mayor Moh. Shaleh said Saturday the apartments, built on a 4.5-hectare plot of land belonging to the municipa-lity, were currently under construction.
"The apartments will be ready by December this year," Shaleh said as quoted by state news agency Antara.
He added the apartments would be available for 197 families.
The administration will also provide schools, a community health center and a mosque.
It will also disburse Rp 6 million (US$600) in cash to each family that decides not to take an apartment.
The victims will also get compensation from the National Disaster Management Agency, ranging from Rp 5 million to Rp 30 million, depending on the extent of damage to their homes. -JP
