Blanc Essential

There's something cool and refreshing about white clothing that makes it chic all summer long. For it is a staple to anyone’s wardrobe, many of us, often find white tricky to pull off even in summer. Now designers are suggesting that fall should be a white slate too—ivory suits at Ralph Lauren, creamy toppers at Aquilano, or little white dresses at Josh Goot. In fact, the little white dress seems poised to give the ‘Little black dress’ a run for its money. “Women have learned how to make white work for them,” asserts Roland Mouret. To pull off the look without a big-name designer or personal tailor on speed dial, he advises flesh coloured boy shorts or a pair of spanx.

Flying Forward

For the Chinese people, Feiyue has come to represent the Chinese public on multiple levels. From the legendary Shaolin monks to politicians and sportsmen, the Feiyue brand has transcend all social categories. Launched in 1920, Feiyue which means- "flying forward" - became known for its robust yet flexible footwear designs in the 30’s before being launched in Europe in 2006 and going on to find a fashion following among sneaker-savvy fans. Teaming up with French fashion house CELINE, the collaboration is an interesting mix of high-end Parisian fashion and the low-end nature of affordable Feiyue sneakers. With a retro design influence, the spring/summer 2009 women’s collaboration will be available in all Celine boutiques come September.

Splash Away

Hot on the heels of their 2009 wedding lingerie comes Agent Provocateur's Spring 2009 bikini and swimwear collection. The luxe British lingerie brand, known for their ultra-sexy ad campaigns, has just come out with a collection featuring a wide range of eye-catching styles. Described as "the perfect beach wear for all seductive sirens," the collection is heavy on low necks and cutaway sides, naturally. Looks include classic polka dots, a Daisy Duke-style red-and-white gingham and denim bikini, a trio of 60's-inspired one-piece swimsuits with oversized silver buttons, and some decidedly more '80s-inspired pieces in black wet-look fabric with fishnet panels.

Fluid Foundations

The fluidity of flowing fabrics and slimming "foundations" like pants and skirts made with nylon, spandex, and lycra – to be worn on their own or under the beautiful dresses and other garments in the collection, FIT-educated designer Karolina Zmarlak has designed her very first ready to wear collection, Fluid Foundations. Zmarlak has worked with Carolina Herrera and Theory, and until now has been designing exclusively for private clients. Her specialty at FIT was in tailoring, and she pays very close attention to how a piece fits. Karolina Zmarlak's smart designs are incredibly "convertible" and customizable, and while they are certainly not cheap, they are made from strong synthetic materials that will last for years – each garment is really more like three.
