Ninety-one young boys underwent free circumcisions Tuesday at City Hall, provided by the Jakarta administration as part of annual events to commemorate the city's 482nd anniversary.
"There were many more participants, but we only targeted 100 children," said Elfatna, an official at the administration's religious affairs unit.
She added the boys also got free medicine and Rp 500,000 (US$50) each in cash.
The attendance list showed the youngest boy there was less than 3 years old, while the oldest was 13.
Mass circumcisions are commonly held during school holidays.

Of course genital cutting is a horrible barbaric atrocity. But why must we condemn it only for females? Just as with female genital cutting, male circumcision results in hundereds of deaths, thousands of hospitalizations, and countless disfigurements every year. Males are cut by force or coercion, and benefits are imagined to include attractiveness to the opposite sex. Most of the world's men are intact and doing quite well. Foreskin feels REALLY good. Most of the US men who have died of AIDS were circumcised at birth. The US has three times the HIV incidence that Europe has, even though most US adults are cut and most Europeans are intact. Male circumcision DOES NOT prevent HIV transmission. Protect boys too.
