JAKARTA: The Papuan chapter of the Democratic Party (PD) has fired one of its members for his alleged involvement in the attack on a female journalist during a vice presidential candidate campaign tour last week.
The assailant, RK, allegedly kicked Odeadata Julia Vanduk, from the Sinar Harapan daily, at the Swissbell Hotel in Jayapura, Papua, during the campaign tour of Boediono, the running mate of the PD's chief patron Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
"We have concluded our meeting and have decided to fire RK," Carolus Bolly from the Papuan chapter of the Democratic Party told Antara state news agency.
He said the incident had damaged the party's image and sparked a massive public outcry.
"The PD regrets the incident and humbly asks for forgiveness from Odeadata, both of her parents, everyone at Sinar Harapan and all journalists in Papua and the country." - JP
