63,500 officers to safeguard election

The city administration is set to deploy 63,500 officers to safeguard a number of important spots across the capital during the July 8 presidential election.
Of the 63,500 officers, 29,500 are police and the remaining 34,000 are public order officers.
Police will focus on securing polling stations, government institutions, embassies and tourism sites, tempointeraktif.com reported Wednesday.
Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Wahyono said his office would dispatch 16,500 personnel two days before Election Day, to guard polling stations; 4,000 officers to patrol the capital; and 9,000 officers to serve the public.
Governor Fauzi Bowo said the 34,000 public order officers would help to guard 12,501 polling stations in the city.
Some 7.6 million Jakartans will cast their votes in the upcoming presidential election. (ewd)
