Hundreds of people staged a demonstration against the visit of vice presidential candidate Boediono in front of the Makassar Elections Commission on Wednesday.
Boediono and his team are scheduled to hold a campaign at the Andi Mattalatta sports hall at 2.00 p.m. local time.
The protesters, mostly women, rejected the Boediono’s presence in the city as they deem him a neoliberal.
They were worried that, if elected, Boediono and his presidential counterpart, Susilo Bamband Yudhoyono, would continue to implement a neoliberal agenda, which would lead to an increase in the cost of basic commodities as well as education and health services.
The group further claimed the pair would sell state assets to foreign interests, despite the fact that the Constitution states that natural resources must be used for the benefit of the Indonesian people.
