Candidates committed to bureaucratic reform: campaign teams
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Presidential Election | Wed, July 01 2009, 9:36 PM
Campaign teams claimed Wednesday their respective presidential candidates were committed to bureaucratic reform and the improvement of pubic services.
“I am against the general view that bureaucratic reform is impossible because it is in the blood of Indonesian people,” Sonny Keraf from the Megawati Soekarnoputri and Prabowo Subianto campaign team told a seminar held to assess each candidate's bureaucratic reform agenda.
Sonny said Megawati and Prabowo offered a six-step bureaucratic overhaul plan, including a minimum recruitment of civil servants to boost the performance of existing employees, integrated public services and an improvement of the remuneration system to eradicate corruption.
Hayono Isman from the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Boediono campaign team said the pair would issue regulations that supported bureaucratic reform, enforcing the law and changing the belief that bureaucracy is just political machinery.
Jusuf Kalla and Wiranto were not represented at the event, held by the People's Coalition for the Supervision of Good and Clean Governance (Komwas PBB). (adh)
