KARANGASEM: Bali's provincial administration together with the Bina Kasih Insani Foundation jointly held renovation programs for 47 dilapidated houses in Pucung, Ban village in Karangasem regency, East Bali on Sunday.
Wayan Cubluk or Men Cubluk, a 60-year-old grandmother was very happy to see her two by three meter-bamboo hut demolished and replaced with a concrete building, a modest house enough to shelter her from the heat and rain.
"Do you like your new house?," asked Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika while delivering the key to the elderly lady. "Yes, of course, I have never had a house. That hut was on its last legs," the grandmother said in tears.
The renovation project was part of the Bali government's housing plans for the poor.
For the Karangasem project, the local government has invited the private businesses, including the Ayana Hotel that contributed Rp 900 million as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program. -JP
