The Justice and Human Rights Ministry has allocated Rp 10 billion (nearly US$1 million) to renew its online service (
www.sisminbakum.com), which was grounded following a corruption scandal implicating some former and active senior officials.
The money was taken from this year's state budget and the investment will be pay for itself easily, Justice and Human Rights Minister Andi Mattalatta said Wednesday.
“We can earn between Rp 800 million and Rp 1 billion from the website every day. This is based on an estimate that 50 public notaries register with the ministry every day, paying Rp 1.2 million each,” Andi said.
The Ministry's secretary, Andi Bari Azeh, said the website was still being tested and would go online on July 23.
The website has been the center of a graft scandal implicating several top officials, including the ministry’s former director general of legal administration, Romli Atmasasmita.
Instead of going to the state coffers, money from the website went into the pockets of those officials and the ministry’s business partner PT Sarana Rekatama Dinamika (SRD), which had won the website development project without tender.
The Attorney General's Office (AGO) says the case has caused Rp 400 billion in state losses. (ewd)
