Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Abdul Hafiz Anshary said Wednesday the KPU had no plans to delay the July 8 presidential election.

Abdul was responding to a statement from Muhammadiyah chairman Dien Syamsuddin that the presidential election might not go ahead as scheduled as preparations, particular regarding the electoral roll, were not completed.

Muhammadiyah is the second largest Muslim organization in the country.

"We are ready to hold the presidential election. The electoral roll is correct, I don't think Pak [Mr.] Dien is right," Abdul said as quoted by Kompas.com.

He said the KPU did not want to take the risk of delaying the presidential election as the next president must be announced by Oct. 6 and installed by Oct. 20.

The KPU is set to hold a teleconference call with the Elections Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), the National Police, the Indonesian Military (TNI) and regional administration officials to make final checks for the July 8 presidential election, he said.
