Riau Islands to deport illegal Afghan immigrants

JAKARTA: The Justice and Human Rights Agency in Riau is set to deport 70 illegal Afghan immigrants.

Adjat Sudrajat David, head of the agency said Tuesday the immigrants would leave Indonesia in three separate groups.

The first group of 30 immigrants would leave on a flight on Tuesday. Adjat said the immigrants were to be deported following the verification of their identity and nationality by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

"The deportations are funded by the IOM," he said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

The province has arrested a total 191 illegal Afghan immigrants that were heading to Australia and America. -JP
