An 18-year-old girl reported her friend to the police for defamation due to a profane Facebook message.

Bogor Police crime unit chief Adj. Comr. Irwansyah confirmed Tuesday the report and said detectives were investigating the case, which might be driven by teen jealousy.

Felly Fandini Julistin Karnories filed a report on June 23 againts Ujang Romansyah, 18, after receiving a message sent from Ujang’s Facebook profile calling her a dog, a pig and fat. The message said she should back away and that she was pretentious.

Irwansyah said investigators had received new information from Felly saying Ujang’s girlfriend had written the message.

“Ujang told Felly his girlfriend was responsible for the message. Felly said she befriended Ujang because they went to school together.”

Irwansyah said the incident began after Felly commented on Ujang’s Facebook status, which was about a personal problem. Felly also sent a personal message to Ujang’s Facebook profile. Ujang’s girlfriend, who had access to his account, read the message.

Ujang said she was offended by the advice. Ujang’s girlfriend allegedly replied through Ujang’s account using harsh words. Felly then reported Ujang to the police.

Detectives will summon Ujang in two or three days. Irwansyah said that they were using the defamation article of the Criminal Code, which gives a sentence up to one year in prison. He said there was the possibility of using the Information and Electronic Transaction Law.

Irwansyah said they had questioned Felly’s mother Nonih, 39 and a resident of Seuseupan, Ciawi Hendra Saputra, 26. The police are coordinating with expert witnesses from the Business Software alliance.

Bogor Police may use the Criminal Code’s defamation article or the Information and Electronic Transaction Law.

If the police wants to make this case a lesson to use as a benchmark for future possible cases which are more serious in nature, then it's fine. But if they are taking this case seriously, then it's a waste of people's money since they are payed to take care of serious criminal cases. Most important is, what would follow is the parents would be in a rat race to top one another in the bribery competition. As for the teenager's , it's just a dog-cat fight. Get over each other, Girls ! And stop wasting time with your facebook!
