Total and Inpex to supply gas to Kutai power plant

KUTAI KARTANEGARA: Total Indonesia and Japan 's Inpex have agreed to supply 20 million metric standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas to a power plant in Senipah, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan.

Ramli Akhmad, the president director of Perusahaan Daerah Kelistrikan and Sumber Daya Energy (KSDE), a company owned by Kutai Kartanegara regional government that will operate the power plant, said in a statement issued on Tuesday that KSDE, Total and Inpex had signed a gas sales agreement on Saturday last week.

Under the agreement, Total and Inpex will supply gas to the power plant for 20 years starting from 2011.

For gas to be sold between 2011 and 2017, the price is set at US$3.50 per Million British Thermal Units (MMBTU) but will increase 3 percent per year.

Between 2018 and 2031, gas will be priced at US$4.50 per MMBTU, and will be increased 3 percent a year.

During this period, PLN also plans to increase its rates for electricity, and the price of gas will also be adjusted accordingly.

KSDE expects to begin the construction of the power plant in August this year, and hopes to complete the project in 2011. - JP
