PEKANBARU/MEDAN: The immigration authorities in Pekanbaru announced Monday it had recaptured two of the 37 Afghan illegal immigrants who escaped Sunday from their detention center here.
Detention center head Yanizur said both immigrants, identified as Muhammad Ali, 25, and Saukhan Ali bin Habibullah Akal Haidari, 43, were recaptured separately.
Ali was found healthy but Saukhan was severely injured after having jumped from the top of the center's barb-wired wall.
"He surrendered with the help of a local, who asked for anonymity," Yanizur said Tuesday.
Muhammad Ali, meanwhile, was recaptured by local police conducting a raid at an inn on Jl. Sukarno-Hatta, Pekanbaru.
He added his office was workingwith the local police to locate the 35 other escapees, and coordinating with the Bakauheni Port security unit to apprehend the immigrants should they attempt to cross to Jakarta through the port.
Separately in Medan, North Sumatra, authorities are still on the lookout for 13 Afghan illegal immigrants who escaped early Monday morning from the local immigration office there. -JP
