JAKARTA: While for others, lip-syncing helps cover moments of off-tune singing during live performances, newcomer Vidi Aldiano chooses to avoid it.

“I’ve never liked lip-syncing and I’ve never done it,” Vidi told kapanlagi.com after a performance at Blok M Square South Jakarta.

He also denied using the controversial technique when a reporter asked if he used it during that particular performance.

“I swear I don’t lip-sync,” he said.

Vidi sang three songs during the show and asked his fans to sing along with him on the stage, including children.

“I’m very happy that my songs are appreciated even by children. I know they are quite upset I could only perform three songs. I’d have liked to sing more songs, but I have another performance tonight,” said the 29-year-old.

Vidi Aldiano and his band were invited to participate at the Java Jazz 2005, but he gained popularity only after his performance at the JakJazz 2009, just a few months before releasing his debut album, Pelangi di Malam Hari (Rainbow in the Night), last November. — JP
