KUPANG: The United Nations' World Food Programme (WFP) has called for a more serious investigation into allegations of sharp objects being found in biscuits the organization donated a few months ago to feed malnourished children.
The call was made Monday by the WFP deputy country director for Indonesia, Peter Guesl, during a closed-door meeting with East Nusa Tenggara Police and several related institutions on progress in the case.
Maria Sara, head of social welfare at the provincial administration secretariat, said Tuesday both the WFP and the police would thoroughly investigate the case, believed to be sabotage. "The police said it would summon several related parties, including PT Pilar Sejahtera, which produced the biscuits, for a hearing," said Maria, referring to the Central Java-based company.
The case emerged earlier this year when elementary school students found various sharp objects in the donated biscuits they received. -JP
