undreds of Canadians flocked to the Four Seasons Hotel on Wednesday evening to celebrate the 142nd Canada Day and bid farewell to their popular Ambassador John T. Holmes.
Canada Day is always celebrated on July 1 and marks the creation of the Canadian Federation in line with the British-North American pact.
The ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel was so crowded that people found it difficult to enjoy the mouthwatering Canadian dishes and drinks The guests did not just include members of the Canadian community, but also members of the diplomatic community and prominent Indonesians.
Ambassador Holmes impressed the guests with his language skills, welcoming the guests in three languages: English, French and Indonesian. He wanted to provide an insight into the Canadian West through decorations, food and music. He mentioned that this Canada Day would be his last in Indonesia because he will be leaving soon after the imminent completion of his tenure in Jakarta.
The decorations were greatly appreciated by the guests.
"The atmosphere is pleasant. We are completely emerged in Canada. It is something very new for us" said the Portuguese Ambassador Carlos Manuel Leitao Frota.
