Shortly after the start of their final round of presidential debate on Thursday, Jusuf Kalla attacked his rival Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono over his campaign team’s advertisements which called for a one-round election to save budget.
Kalla said the democracy could not be valued with money, which might degrade the value of democracy itself.
“I am sorry Pak SBY, your ads calling for one-round election in order to save Rp 4 trillion implies the democracy has a monetary value,” Kalla said.
“I am afraid if we follow the ads, there would be no election in 2014 to save Rp 25 trillion of the state budget.”
In response to the criticism, Yudhoyono said the ads did not belong to him.
