Candidates are readying themselves for Thursday's evening's final
presidential debate, which will take a different format from the previous two.
Pratikno, Dean of Gadjah Mada University's Faculty of Social and Political
Sciences, will moderate the debate, with the theme "National Unity, Democracy
and Regional Autonomy," among presidential hopefuls Megawati Soekarnoputri,
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Jusuf Kalla.
The General Elections Comission (KPU) says that they have decided to omit one session
of the live-to-air debate.
In previous debates each candidate was given seven minutes to outline their
vision regarding the themes, after which the moderated asked questions, with a
final question and answer session among candidates and the moderator.
"By omitting the second session, we will longer timer to spend on the third. We
hope this will make the debate more dynamic and heated," KPU member I Gusti
Putu Artha said, as quoted by kompas.com. (dre)
