The National Commission for Child Protection has urged the Tangerang District Court to immediately release 10 minors recently arrested for alleged gambling at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport, citing their flawed arrest.

"We will try to get the court to finish the trial in one day to make things easier for those kids," secretary-general of the commission, Arist Merdeka Sirait, said Thursday.

He said the police lacked evidence to arrest the children in the first place. “The arrest was faulty from the start, not to mention the hard time those children endured," Arist said.

He said the police simply seized coins out of the children's pockets as evidence. The children were nabbed as they were caught betting while playing a heads-or-tails game at the airport.

During detention the children said they were exposed to physical and mental torture.

"The police shoved us around and forced us lie in the sweltering sun at midday", one of the children said during an interview. (dis)
