Seven rallies will be held in Jakarta on Thursday, likely exacerbating traffic conditions in the city notorious for gridlock.
The Jakarta Police Traffic Management Center (TMC) said the first rally was to
be held in front of the Health Ministry building on Jl. HR Rasuna Said in South
Jakarta at 10 a.m. and that the second was scheduled to be held outside the
Jakarta Police Headquarters in Central Jakarta.
The morning will also see student and youth groups converge at the headquarters
of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in Kuningan, South Jakarta, and outside
the House of Representatives in Central Jakarta.
At 11 a.m. protestors will rally in front of the Sultan Hotel in Senayan, Central Jakarta. Then at noon a student group will stage
a demonstration in front of the State
Palace. Meanwhile a
Muslim group will rally at the Religious Affairs Ministry.
A second rally will target the KPK in the afternoon.
The police are advising the public to take alternative routes to avoid the
traffic jams that will likely be caused by the rallies. (dre)
