The Cianjur Prosecutor's Office in West Java has named two politicians suspects for their alleged role in the misuse of social aid funds in 2007 and 2008, which caused hundreds of millions of rupiah in losses.
Chief prosecutor Amiek Mulandari told tempointeraktif.com on Thursday that Heri Sukirman, regional chairman of the Democratic Party, and Dede Suryamah, top local executive of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), were suspected of embezzling the money that was supposed to be channeled to the needy through mosques.
“We’re still waiting for an audit from the BPKP [State Development Finance Comptroller] to calculate the losses,” Amiek said.
Investigators will summon Regent Tjejep Muchtar Soleh for questioning as a witness concerning the aid policy.
Dede skipped a summons for questioning Thursday for a “party commitment”.
He is accused of misusing Rp 185 million (US$18,500) in aid funds, while Heri is accused of embezzling at least Rp 230 million. (ewd)
