The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has urged the Immigration Office to immediately revoke the passport of fugitive Djoko Chandra, who prosecutors claim has no intention of heeding their summons for questioning.
“We will speak with the Immigration Office so they can revoke Djoko’s passport. He will be given a travel letter in lieu of a passport if he decides to return home,” Attorney General Hendarman Supandji told journalists Friday.
Djoko is reportedly in Singapore after a period hiding in Papua New Guinea, where he went just before the Supreme Court sentenced him and former Bank Indonesia governor Sjahril Sabirin to two years in jail each last month. Djoko’s lawyers have asked the prosecutors to delay the execution of the court’s verdict for 30 days.
Djoko and Sjahril were found guilty of misappropriating Rp 560 billion in state funds that went to the ailing Bank Bali in 1999.
