Bali artists seek candidates' attention

DENPASAR: Hundreds of Balinese artists, comprising musicians, painters and poets, have demanded the three presidential candidates pay more attention to Indonesia's arts and cultures.

Officials from the three campaign teams attended an event Tuesday in the provincial capital Denpasar to try to accommodate criticism and ideas from the audience.

Organizer Ketut Indrawan said the event was held amid a backdrop of growing anxiety over the three candidates' lack of any sort of platform on preserving and developing local arts and cultures.

"All the candidates talk about the economy, education and other topics based on material growth; none of them can give any clear ideas on how to take care of our arts and cultures," he said.

"We don't care who is elected the next president.

"What matters most to us is their stance on issues that affect Indonesian arts and cultures," he added. - JP
