SURABAYA: During this year's school holidays, tourists, mostly domestic, flocked to Surabaya and its tourist attractions.
More than 90 percent of top hotels in the city are fully booked, and the city is expected to be more crowded this coming weekend.
The local office of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) said that from last week, three and four-star hotels had been fully booked. Most of them were in Surabaya and Malang.
Usually, the occupancy rate of the star hotels in these cities is only 50 to 60 percent.
This shows that East Java, particularly Surabaya and Malang, still attract tourists.
The newly launched Suramadu bridge has also lured tourists to visit. During the holiday season, thousands of people from Surabaya and other nearby cities visited Indonesia's longest bridge.
Some of them passed the bridge, while others enjoyed it from the beach near the bridge. -JP
