MEDAN: Some 300 Malaysian students, who studied medicine in Uzbekistan, were rejected by the University of North Sumatra (USU) in Medan.
USU spokesman Bisru Hafi said Thursday they had applied to the university as their medical diplomas were not recognized in Malaysia.
"Their diplomas from Uzbekistan are not recognized by the Malaysian government. So, they wished to continue their studies at the USU because USU certificates of graduation are recognized in Malaysia."
Bisru said the Malaysian students were ready to each pay Rp 300 million per year to be allowed to study at the USU's medical faculty.
He said the USU policy of providing more chances for Indonesian students this year was another reason to deny the 300 graduates.
"This year USU will only admit 40 Malaysian students to study at the medical faculty." -JP
