SBY' team accused of character assassination

JAKARTA: Head of Jusuf Kalla's presidential election campaign team, incumbent Industrial Minister Fahmi Idris, claims the Mallarangeng brothers from the presidential campaign team of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) have been trying to "assassinate" Kalla with racist statements.
"I hope Hatta Rajasa *SBY's campaign team head* will take firm action against the Mallarangengs. Their attitudes must be controlled, especially when it comes to the ideology of Bhineka Tunggal Ika *Unity in Diversity* and Pancasila," he told The Jakarta Post.
Choel, Rizal and Andi Mallarangeng are three prominent figures in SBY's team.
Andi was recently caught on camera saying that it was not yet time for "Bugis *an ethnic group from South Sulawesi* ethnic people to lead the nation" during a campaign rally in the predominantly Bugis city of Makassar.
The Mallarangengs themselves are also Bugis. Achmad Mubarok, deputy chairman of SBY's Democratic Party, told The Post that Andi had being misinterpreted. - JP
