The South Sumatra Elections Commission (KPUD) has anticipated that voter turnout in the province for the July 8 presidential election will be low.
“I am concerned people are bored with the election because we already held a local election and legislative elections earlier this year,” Ong Berlian, a member of the South Sumatra KPUD, said Saturday.
The presidential election will also be held during the school holidays, he said, meaning families may still be on vacation outside the province.
He said around 24 percent of eligible voters did not turn out for the April 9 legislative elections.
Ong was confident that people would have no difficult filling out their ballots correctly as the legislative elections were not long ago and the ballots for the presidential election are simpler, with only three candidates.
