Hundreds of volunteers assisting the three presidential campaign teams began removing election banners and posters across Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Saturday evening before the Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) takes them all down by Sunday.
Antara state new agency reported Sunday that the volunteers had removed all campaign material from the main streets of Makassar, such as Jl. AP Pettarani and Jl. Sultan Alauddin.
Hasanuddin, one of the volunteers supporting Jusuf Kalla and Wiranto, said he knew exactly where all the posters in the city were because he assisted putting them up.
Abdul Haeba Ramli, head of the Panwaslu in Makassar, patrolled Jl. AP Pettarani to oversee the work being done by volunteers.
“Removing the banners is the task of the campaign teams and their volunteers, not the Panwaslu. This was outlined in the 2008 election law and is based on an agreement between the government and the candidates’ campaing teams,” Abdul said. (ewd)
