At least two Indonesian students participating in an Asian youth exchange program in Japan have been infected with the H1N1 flu, while two others are being quarantined for suspected infections.

Deputy chief of mission at the Indonesian Embassy in Japan, Ronny P Yuliantoro, told Antara on Monday the infected students were taking part in a home stay in Takamatsu, in the province of Kagawa, and in Hakodate in Hokkaido province, as part of the Jenesys program.

“The report has been submitted by Ambassador Jusuf Anwar to Jakarta, and the embassy has sent diplomats to visit the students infected with the virus,” Ronny said, adding that the embassy was coordinating with the youth exchange program administrator concerning the students’ medical treatment.

About 100 Indonesian students are participating in the Jenesys program this year. Senior high and Islamic boarding school students participate in the program, which seeks to promote Japan to people from other Asian countries.
