A group of people cut down Monday morning two trees near the Mimika General Elections Commission (KPU) office, Timika, Papua, blocking the access road to the poll body office.
The incident began at 5.00 a.m. local time but ended at 6.30 a.m. when the local police came to the location and removed the fallen trees.
12 perpetrators were arrested, but others fled into the forest.
Mimika Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Godhelp C. Mansnembra said the blockage was masterminded by several legislative candidates including Yakobus Kogoya, Philipus Wakerwa and Devi Awom who claimed there were vote counting manipulations in the April 9 legislative elections.
He said the blockage was not an attempt to boycott the July 8 presidential election.
