S. Sumatra Governor gets US award

PALEMBANG: US Ambassador Cameron R. Hume has awarded South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin for his ability to fulfill his campaign promises, an official said Monday.

The provincial administration spokesman Toton Permana said the award was presented during a ceremony celebrating US Independence Day in Medan, North Sumatra on Saturday.

"Alex is the regional leader who fulfilled his campaign promises in 81 days," Toton quoted Hume as saying.

During his campaign earlier this year, Alex promised free education for elementary and senior high schools in private and public schools. - JP
