TANGERANG: The South Tangerang municipal administration says it is set to commence the restoration of Situ Gintung, a dam that burst in March this year, killing nearly 100 residents and destroying hundreds of homes.
"The government has allocated Rp 97 billion for the reconstruction project, and the tender process for the repair work is completed," South Tangerang acting Mayor M. Sholeh said Monday.
He said the project would include rebuilding the collapsed embankment and spillway, and a 500-meter waterway from the dam to the nearby Pesangrahan River.
The waterway will be flanked by green strips.
"The collapsed embankment will be rebuilt in a stronger two-story construction," Sholeh said.
"A city park will also be built so local residents can enjoy more open green spaces."
According to Sholeh, the project would have to clear some land that used to be occupied by residents along the waterway. -JP
