SAMARINDA: The East Kalimantan Environmental Center (BLH) has given red labels, called the 2008/2009 Proper certification, to six companies operating in the province for their poor environmental management.
The red label certificates, issued to companies failing to manage the environment properly, were provided in conjunction with this year's World Environment Day, held at the Pendopo Lamin in Samarinda.
Recipient companies included the Balikpapan Husada Hospital, PT Rimba Lestari Kutai Kartanegara, Tarakan General Hospital, Taman Husada Hospital in Bontang, PT Kayu Lapis Asli Murni and PT Perkebunan XIII in Long Kali.
"The evaluation is in line with the findings in the field. A number of hospitals, for example, were equipped with incinerators but failed to optimize their use," BLH head Tuparman said Tuesday.
He added his office would see to it that the six companies improved their environment management system.
Tuparman, however, said BLH had yet to issue sanctions to the six companies.
"We have not yet meted out any sanctions against them because the issue would be regulated in a new environment law." - JP
