KUPANG: The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) administration has provided rolling funds to 30 people living with HIV/AIDS in Kupang municipality, Kupang regency and South Timor Tengah regency, aimed at improving the well-being of the infected people who mostly come from less-privileged families.
The NTT HIV/AIDS Eradication Commission secretary Husein Pancratius said in Kupang, Tuesday, the funds for initial stage of assistance were derived from the 2009 provincial budget worth Rp 90 million (US$9,000).
Each of the recipients, he added, would get Rp 3 million.
"The funds will be given to others every other six months. The administration will seek other sources of funds to add capital if they are able to develop their businesses."
He added those who received the funds would be involved in activities, such as setting up cell phone counters, fuel stalls, motorcycle taxi services and other small-scale enterprises. - JP
