Hong Kong has been voted the best destination in the Asia Pacific region in three categories: the most "Vibrant City Life", beating countries such as Australia and Japan; "Best Nightlife" beating Japan and Thailand; "Best Shopping" beating Mainland China, according to a recent survey.
The survey was conducted by CNN International's Online Consumer Survey (OCS) on Travel and Tourism in May via CNN's English-language website. The survey attracted over 5,000 respondents from across the globe.
The survey "reasserts the city's ability to reinvent itself for a whole new generation of high-energy-seeking visitors, earning it bragging rights as the Asia Pacific's best destination for unbeatable shopping, entrancing nightlife and a vivacious, uniquely metropolitan lifestyle," Hong Kong Tourism Board said in a statement.
Tourist attractions in the city include the Wan Chai district, where some of the city's newest and hippest bars and restaurants are located; Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon's busiest and brightest entertainment and shopping area, where visitors can also see a bronze statue of Bruce Lee; and shopping areas Tung Choi Street, Temple Street and Granville Road.
Hong Kong has launched a tourism program called Summer Spectacular lasting from June 29 to Aug. 31, 2009, offering special shopping offers, hip and colorful events and new tourist destinations. - JP
