JAMBI: Batanghari regency tap water company PDAM Muarobulian lost Rp 1.7 billion (US$170,000) last year, mostly due to low tariffs, an executive has said.

Company director Abu Bakar Sidik said the Rp 900 per cubic meter tariff charged is not enough to cover the higher production and operational costs, let alone make a profit. "We are continuously suffering losses."

Besides the low tariff, Sidik said the losses could be attributed to customer's late payment of bills. "Almost 35 percents of our customers were late to pay their bills." - JP
