JAKARTA: Otto Cornelis Kaligis, the lawyer representing fugitive Joko Tjandra, said Thursday he would return to face his sentence for involvement in the 1999 Banking Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) graft scandal.
"Joko sent me a fax a few days ago saying that he would return home after finishing business in Singapore next week," Kaligis told The Jakarta Post.
Joko needed a month to recover from the news he had been found guilty by the Supreme Court, Kaligis said.
"It's been three weeks. He's going to go home within the next week," Kaligis said.
On June 11, the court sentenced Joko to two years in prison after prosecutors' requested the previous verdict be reviewed by the court.
Joko, however, reportedly fled to Papua New Guinea on June 10, but now is apparently in Singapore. - JP
