JAKARTA: Parents are storming pawnshops as the new school year approaches. The annual occurrence has this year seen 200 visitors a day at pawnshops.
A worker at a Kalimalang pawnshop in East Jakarta said it was traditional for parents to pawn their belongings to buy school items for their children, kompas.com reports.
Most of the pawned possessions were gold jewelry and small- to medium-sized electronics, such as cell phones and computers. - JP
