SMS: SBY victory

A- A A+

Your comments on the landslide victory of incumbent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the July 8 election as shown by results of quick counts organized by a number of survey organizations.

The President elect now has a new chance to implement the rule of law further. Should he be in need of any assistance, then I will be happy to offer him my services as international prosecutor! The Netherlands owe something to the Emerald Archipelago.

I hope SBY will do whatever he can to promote English as the language of instruction in leading Indonesian universities. As all of us know, much more updated knowledge is written in English than in Indonesian.

If the Indonesian government wants Indonesia to continue to elevate the capabilities of its citizenry, - it must invest in English teaching, and attract first class scholars to teach in leading Indonesian universities, all over the country. Every province should have at least one such first class university, instructing in English.

Medical treatment is awful across Indonesia. First class medical schools instructing in English, with the best lecturers in the world will elevate the status of medical treatment in Indonesia, and may even attract investment in medical tourism to Indonesia.

I am very happy the Indonesian people show they have a strong memory, and the vast majority of Indonesians did not vote for generals with doubtful human-rights backgrounds. Good luck SBY, on your way to elevating the capabilities of the Indonesian citizenry.

Indonesia's a big and complex country, it needs a great leadership to make Indonesia better in many ways. There are also a million problems that should be solved soon. For SBY, you were re-elected to be the first man to lead this state, continue all your best programs for our beloved country!

Well done sir for remaining as the President of Indonesia. I am proud as an Indonesian of your efforts to fight against corruption.

Another important move from you is that we will set free health services for all Indonesians. It is a good move to improve the welfare of all people.

What SBY should do is reflect on what he has promised during the election campaign. He must be consistent. He, however, should not over-exploit natural resources. One thing that should be given priority is education, which is a good investment for our country.

I learned from a Dutch Website for the first time about the election. Stability is growing as well as the economy. Let's hope that the entire population of Indonesia will realize that it's in their own interest for progress to continue. There is still a long way to go. Otherwise we will be forever a third world country in the Asia.

What led to the victory of SBY: The physical performance of SBY is attractive to many people. He has powerful charisma.

He is always described as a polite figure; his military background convinces many people about the high standard of his integrity, morality and leadership. He is also always described as an intellectual.

His background of various military training in US and his MA from the Management University of Missouri and also his close relations with the US President (especially George Bush) and likely also President Barack Obama (Secretary of State Hillary Clinton came to Jakarta to meet SBY a few days after the inauguration of Obama) convince the people that SBY is accepted by the US (the most influential power in the world).

Meanwhile, Megawati and Prabowo are too weak; the Golkar Party splits into various groups that weaken the support of Jusuf Kalla; the effective campaign of SBY's supporters including the support of many political parties, the bureaucratic channel and the stable economic situation in the recent months - it was just good luck, because actually he is not brilliant.
