Israeli group: Army used reckless force in Gaza

A group of former Israeli soldiers is accusing the military of recklessly using force in the Gaza fighting earlier this year that resulted in needless deaths and damage.

The organization Breaking the Silence collected testimonies from soldiers who remained anonymous, and published them Wednesday. The group says the findings reflect not the actions of individuals but "failures in the application of values" across the military.

The military rejects the findings, questioning the report's credibility in a statement and accusing the group of "defaming and slandering the IDF and its commanders."

Israel launched the Gaza offensive to halt years of rocket fire by Gaza militants. Gaza officials say the fighting killed more than 1400 Gazans, mostly civilians. Thirteen Israelis were killed.
