SMS: SBY victory

A- A A+

Your comments on the landslide victory of incumbent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the July 8 election as shown by results of quick counts organized by a number of survey organizations.

You have been doing well so far, but please bear in mind the majority of Indonesians have missed the train of what we call economic development especially in rural areas, not only outside Java. Many of those areas are actually next to you or at least within your reach.

While we are happy to see those developments, we are still a huge population not only in numbers but also in cultures, religions and educational backgrounds. It isn't easy to deal with all those problems in a short period of time.

Indonesia's size itself might often cause you to raise an eyebrow. We understand that too. Thank God, Indonesia is an extremely rich country. We need a very very good manager so that our resources are not wasted.

SBY must prioritize the eastern part of Indonesia where malnutrition, poor health services and other problems persist.

Thank Allah the presidential election in Indonesia took place smoothly. We hope all candidates will accept the result.

President SBY's priorities should include economic development, better education, security, health and being one step ahead of the ongoing global crisis.

The pending tasks of the previous term like dealing with the Sidoarjo mudflow, the safety of Indonesian house cleaners working overseas and military plane accidents should be SBY's first priorities.

New responsibilities should be taken on later.

SBY's priority should first be education, second education and third education. The intensive use of English should start from the first grade of elementary school countrywide, while students from the first grade until the third grade of elementary school should only learn Indonesian, Mathematics and English.

SBY's next administration must be aware that political interference must be removed from state-owned enterprises, otherwise good SOEs will become a nightmare.
