Police, military and security guards have increased precautionary measures at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten, following bomb attacks at the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels in South Jakarta on Friday morning.

Dozens of cars were being searched with metal detectors at the entry gate of the international airport, causing traffic congestion on the access road to the airport.

“For the safety of national and international flights, our officers have tightened security measures on the road to and from the airport,” head of the airport’s security and safety unit Iskandar Hadi told Antara state news agency.

He said the precautionary measures would gradually increase in the coming days. “Security measures will be tightened not just at the entry gate, but at several other spots that fall under our supervision,” he said.
