Jakarta Police said suspected perpetrators of the two bomb attacks in the Kuningan business area in South Jakarta on Friday had stayed at one of the hotels they targeted.

Police chief Insp. Gen. Wahyono said the suspects checked into room 1808 on the 18th floor of JW Marriott Hotel, where the bomb squad found an active bomb during a search after the attacks on Friday morning.

When asked if the suspects were foreigners or not, Wahyono he said his team was still investigating.

He said the bomb attacks had killed eight people and injured 53 others.

"Seven died on site, and another died during hospital treatment," he told the press at the Marriott hotel.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo A.S earlier said that nine people were killed in the terror attack.

At least two decomposed bodies were found, one at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and the other at the nearby JW Marriot Hotel, Wahyono said.

A bomb squad officer suspected the decomposed bodies belonged to the suicide bombers.

According to Wahyono, the JW Marriott bomb exploded at 7:47 a.m. while the second blast at Ritz Carlton went off three minutes later.  (bbs)

The bodies of the suicide bombers, who obviously died on the morning of July 17, couldn't have been "decomposed" when they were found on the same day, as the process of decomposition takes place some days AFTER death has occurred. The report would be more credible if it had stated that the bodies were blown to bits / shattered to pieces.
Questions that are now plaguing the minds of many are: how did the bombers get past the security guards with all their bomb-making material? Did they have assistance from "insiders"? Why was the - usually very tight!- security at these famous and top-level hotels so easily penetrated?
All searing questions ...which won't undo what has happened, and won't bring the dead victims back. It's very sad and regrettable, indeed.
