Police are having difficulty identifying three dead victims, out of
a total eight that were killed in a pair of suicide bomb explosions that
hit two luxury hotels in Jakarta on Friday.
Brig. Gen. Sulistiyo Ishak, a spokesman of the National Police said Saturday that the three victims' faces were severely damaged, making them difficult to identify.
The faces were burnt, one even had his face peeled of the skull, he said.
Sulistiyo said the police's Disaster Victim Identification unit were working to identify the victims using their bone structure and dental records.
“We are trying to be as quick as we can."
Kompas.com news portal reported that the other five dead victims were identified as Timothy D Mackay (of New Zealand), Arnold (Singapore), Darmanto (Indonesia), Nathan Verity, and Garth McEvoy (Australia).
Two suicide bombers blew themselves up almost simultaneously at the JW Marriot and Ritz-Carlton hotels on Friday morning. At least 50 were injured in the incident. (dre)
